Television actor Hiten Tejwani has officially returned to one of the most iconic roles of his career — Karan Virani — in the reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The much-anticipated revival of the cult daily soap has stirred a wave of nostalgia across generations, and for Hiten, stepping back into the Virani mansion is nothing short of an emotional homecoming.
Speaking about reprising Karan Virani, Hiten said, “It’s surreal. When Ekta (Kapoor) ma’am called and told me they’re bringing back Kyunki, I was speechless. Karan was a defining character for me, and getting to play him again, with a fresh narrative arc, is an honour I didn’t see coming.”

The actor, who originally took over the role from Eijaz Khan in the early 2000s, became a household name for his portrayal of the calm, responsible, and ever-loving son of Tulsi Virani. The reboot, while modern in treatment, retains its emotional core — and that includes reuniting Hiten with his on-screen mother, Smriti Irani.
“Reuniting with Smriti ji after so many years was like picking up where we left off,” Hiten shared. “She brings such energy and gravitas to Tulsi even today. Our first scene together for the reboot had everyone on set clapping. It was like witnessing magic.”

While Smriti Irani is now a Union Minister, she made time for a special appearance in the reboot, which adds layers of emotional depth to the new storyline. Fans of the original are eager to see how the mother-son dynamic evolves, especially with new challenges and family conflicts taking centre stage.
Tejwani also acknowledged the significance of the show in Indian television history: “Kyunki was never just a serial. It was an emotion. It brought families together at 10:30 pm every night. Now, we’re hoping to do that again, with a contemporary twist.”
The reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi premiered recently to a thunderous response from nostalgic fans and new viewers alike. And with Hiten Tejwani back as Karan Virani, the show is well on its way to recapturing the old magic — while telling new stories for a new generation.
